– Carbon cutting continues apace in Enfield
– Sustainable Enfield launched, aiming to make the borough a great place to live and work
– New carbon reduction targets set for the borough and Council

Enfield is on its way to becoming a greener, more sustainable borough, with the Council successfully reducing its carbon footprint by 45%, exceeding its own 40% carbon reduction target three years early.

The borough of Enfield is also on track for a 40% reduction in its carbon footprint by 2020, despite a growing population.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Business, Cllr Alan Sitkin, said: “This is a fantastic achievement by the Council, its partners and all of its employees.

“Local authorities can have a huge impact in areas such as energy efficiency in buildings, renewable energy and fuel poverty. We have also set up energetik as a local energy company [[www.energetik.london]]. These initiatives all contribute to the growth and sustainability of Enfield, and to the creation of strong communities within the borough.

“We have embraced the challenge of addressing climate change and will continue to set ambitious carbon reduction targets. Although we have big hurdles ahead, such as population growth, these aren’t insurmountable.

“Working with our partners, Enfield Council is delivering more than 50 large-scale projects to improve the sustainability of Enfield. We will continue to innovate and collaborate to become greener and cleaner.”

Almost half of Enfield Council’s carbon reduction is due to the Council investing in its buildings to save money, energy and carbon. New targets have now been set for the Council and the borough to reduce their carbon footprints by 60% by 2025.

We’re also rebranding ‘Enfield 2020,’ the Council’s first sustainability programme to Sustainable Enfield. Sustainable Enfield is a major initiative from the Council to ensure the borough is a great place to live and work for future generations [[www.enfield.gov.uk/sustainable]].
