Around 100 Turkish Cypriots who come from the southern coastal town of Limassol reconfirmed their relations with their hometown as they attended the Wine Festival on Saturday at the invitation of Limassol Municipality.

The gathering was held as part of the common activities of the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Centre in occupied Kyrenia and the Limassol Cultural Centre.

The Turkish Cypriots arrived at the Limassol Municipality where they were welcomed by Mayor Nikos Nikolaides who underlined the significance of the activities undertaken by the Limassol Cultural Centre.  “Such contacts are greatly significant”, he said, and create the right kind of climate that should exist in Cyprus.

In statements to CNA, the chairman of the foundation, Yucem Rasimoglu, said it was the first time that the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Centre organised a trip to the Wine Festival at the invitation of the Municipality which he thanked.

Rasimoglu said they often visit their birthplace while younger Turkish Cypriots hear stories about Limassol and the Wine Festival and were excited to be at the festival for the first time.

The members of the Turkish Cypriot Cultural centre said they met last week with the Limassol Mayor and decided to hold a number of common activities and events in the near future.

Yucem Rasimoglu and former Limassol Mayor Andreas Christou were jointly awarded last year the bicommunal cooperation award by the Stelios Hadzioannou foundation for the restoration of Turkish Cypriot monuments in Limassol.
