On Wednesday 6th September, community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction UK Ltd, held their Annual General Meeting at the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood.
At the well-attended evening, the 2016/17 Chairman Michael Pieri gave a review of the season. Notable highlights in addition to on-pitch successes included a two year sponsorship deal with P&M Construction UK Ltd, a new club kit for all players, a successful summer tournament, a brilliant Dinner and Dance evening, a brand new, fully functioning and informative website as well as extensive media exposure via local community newspapers and social media.
Mr Pieri thanked the Management Committee for their efforts during the season and commended the club’s community ethos:
“We are a community hub; a place where young people can come and make friends for life and learn to play the game they love. Every week last season over 350 children enjoyed training and matches. They were having fun and being with their friends. We put on many events and I genuinely believe it is a happy environment; an environment where young people can develop their football but also grow as young people… as a review of the season, I hope you can agree with me that we as a club have achieved so much and with the hard work of the Management Committee we have moved the club forward and helped to evolve the club to improve the footballing provision of the young people of our community to benefit the young people whose football education we have been entrusted with.”
Treasurer Demi Shiamishis was then asked to give a financial synopsis which showed the club in a very healthy financial position.
Last year’s committee were then asked to stand down in order for the process of the new Management Committee to be elected.
Unopposed, Michael Pieri was again elected as Chairman for the 2017/18 season and immediately put in place his starting Management Committee which consists of Mary Kizas (Secretary), Kyri Georgiou (Vice-Chairman and Welfare Officer), Demi Shiamishis and Omi Omirou (Treasurers), Alex Christofi, George Constantinou and Fano Shiamishis.
