Nearly one in four young people (20-24 years old) in Cyprus are completely inactive, since they are not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET). Indeed, according to a report drawn up by the European Statistical Service EUROSTAT, which was released yesterday, Cyprus has the largest increase since the share of young people inactive rose to 22.7% in 2016 compared to 13.7% in 2006.

This statistic too highlights the distressing reality that a large section of Cypriot society, among them the young generation, is experiencing. The government and ruling forces are celebrating portraying a rosy picture of a state of affairs that they created with their neo-liberal policies, which every day is killing young people’s dreams and prospects.

We are certain that the government and ruling forces will not comment on this figure released by the European Statistical Service, as they never commented on the fact that Cyprus is Europe’s champion in income inequality, wage reduction rates, increased social insecurity, the degradation of Public health and much more. Through their silence, the government and ruling forces are trying to hide the problems. Their efforts are in vain, as citizens are suffering daily from the devastating effects of the policy of the Anastasiades-DISY government.
