A man who threatened two people with a handgun during a traffic dispute has been jailed.

Daniel Closca, 30 (18.03.87), of Foster Hill Road, Bedford, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday 21 July. He was sentenced that same day to 18 months imprisonment.

Detective Constable Joel Gregory, the investigating officer from Enfield’s Major Crime Unit said: “Closca brazenly produced a firearm in the street following what appeared to be an insignificant traffic dispute. He had complete disregard for the safety of those around him and also made no effort to disguise what he was doing or who he was.

“It was clear that Closca produced that firearm to cause the occupants of the vehicle behind him to fear for their own safety.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the two members of the public who supported the police investigation. Without them this conviction would not have been possible.”

On Sunday, 23 April, at approximately 17:45hrs, a black Audi A6 was seen on CCTV to stop on Croyland Road in Edmonton, due to there being insufficient room ahead to pass because of an oncoming vehicle.

The vehicle behind the Audi reversed to allow the Audi to do the same, but the Audi remained stationary.

After a short wait, the driver of the Audi got out of the car before walking to the vehicle behind whilst waving his hands in anger. He walked back to the Audi and waved at the female front passenger, who passed what appears to be a handgun to him.

The driver pointed the handgun at the people behind him before driving off.

As a result of the incident, a ‘marker’ was put on the Audi. The vehicle was picked up on Automatic number-plate recognition [ANPR] in Bedford on Sunday, 30 April. It was recovered by officers, but there was no trace of the registered keeper, who was identified as Closca.

Officers carried out further CCTV enquiries from Croyland Road and matched the gunman as Closca by comparing it with the image from his driving licence which was found in the car.

A bag containing a large quantity of cash was also found; Closca had this on him in the footage.

On Monday, 12 June, Closca attended a north London police station to enquire about getting the Audi back. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was charged the following day.

The firearm has not been recovered.
