Police in Larnaca are looking into the attack on a cemetery in the picturesque village of Kalavasos by vandals.

According to Kalavasos community leader Lefteris Fokas, the vandals broke into the cemetery on Thursday and smashed around a dozen headstones as well as spray swastikas and satanic symbols in the grounds.

Fokas added that he didn’t think the vandals were residents of the village.

Police say the vandalism was discovered by the resident of the area who visited the cemetery on Friday morning.

A total of 15 headstones have been damaged while there are swastikas, five-pointed stars and upside down crosses have also been spray painted.

Larnaca CID are investigating the incident along with police in the nearby village of Zygi.
