Officers investigating an assault during a football match in Hertford are appealing for information and witnesses.

Between 3.45pm and 4pm on Saturday, August 5, a verbal altercation occurred at Hertford Football Club in West Street.

During the incident one of the Hertford FC players was assaulted and suffered a cut to his right eyebrow.

PC Chris Golding, who is investigating, said: “The victim suffered a nasty gash during the assault which required hospital treatment and several stitches.

“We know that lots of people would have attended to watch the match between Hertford FC and Beaconsfield Town FC on Saturday so I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Following the incident the game was abandoned and police were later called.”
