Russia wants the Cyprus problem to remain within the framework of UN resolutions and for this it coordinates its actions with the Republic’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Russian Ambassador in Nicosia Stanislav Osadchiy has said.

Osadchiy met today with President of the Citizen’s Alliance party and candidate for the Republic’s 2018 presidential elections Yiorgos Lillikas

“We coordinate our action at the UN with Cyprus’ Mission in order to continue the good offices mission of the UN Secretary General to the island and to keep the Cyprus problem within the framework of the UN resolutions” Russian Ambassador stated after the meeting.

“This is what we want, this is what we think the Cypriot side wants and we act together accordingly” he added.

The latest round of UN-facilitated peace talks, to reunite Cyprus under a federal roof, ended inconclusively in early July. Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
