After the arrival of Thomas Christiansen as new manager at Elland Road, many fans thought the former Spanish international would resort to players he had much success with over in Cyprus, but with him bringing in Mateusz Klich, Felix Wiedwald, and Vurnon Anita, so far Leeds fans may be surprised with the approach taken by Christiansen.

However, Christiansen shouldn’t just totally ignore the former talent he managed during his time in Cyprus, as his former club APOEL do have some promising players which could make a big impact over in England, especially under Christiansen.

APOEL’s Nicholas Ioannou, who is valued at £38.3k on transfermarket, could be a really smart investment for the future for Leeds.

The 21-year-old broke into APOEL’s first team back in 2014, and since has been awarded the young player of the season by the Cyprus FA, and has also been able to obtain his first appearance for the Cyprus national team.

Ioannou also was originally scouted by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and spent eight years in Man United’s academy, which shows just how much talent the youngster has for Sir Alex to sign him as a future prospect, but unfortunately for him never managed a first team appearance, and was sold to Cypriot side in 2014.

The tall left-back has shown his maturity during his time in Cyprus, as he oozes confidence at the back and can be relied on to make a last ditch tackle.

]The Cypriot also has played a fair amount of games at centre-back and if tutored correctly could be transitioned into a fantastic centre-back partner for Pontus Jansson.

The only thing holding Leeds back may be the demanding transfer fee that APOEL will be expecting may be high due to his age, but Ioannou would probably try and force a move back over to England, due to the prestige of the English football league.

Regardless of the circumstances, Ioannou would be a fantastic piece of business whether he is used in their academy to help his growth, or thrown straight into the first team, where he would become a valued first team member, after given minutes.
