A dinner hosted by the UN is underway in Crans Montana ahead of Wednesday’s resumption of the Cyprus conference.

 

It was to take place in the presence of Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman who will arrive however on Wednesday morning.

 

At tonight’s dinner, the leaders of Cyprus’ two communities, President Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, are taking part with a six-member delegation each. The Foreign Ministers of the three guarantor powers have a four-member delegation each.

After the dinner, President Anastasiades is expected to meet British foreign Secretary Boris Johnson’s at the initiative of the British diplomat.

 

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader have been engaged in UN-led talks since May 2015 with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof.
