Fifty-eight people are “missing and presumed dead” following the fire at Grenfell Tower, police have confirmed.

Commander Stuart Cundy of the Metropolitan Police told a press conference the number may change but those believed to have died when the London tower block went up in flames is currently in double figures.

He added: “There may be other people in who were in there who at this time nobody is able to tell us were in there”.

Describing the fire as ‘truly horrific’ he also pledged that he “will do whatever I can to find the answers to what happened here”.

Some 19 people remain at four hospitals across London, following the Grenfell Tower block fire, 10 of who are in critical conditions.

At least 30 people died in the disaster, but the emergency services have said they expect the figure to rise.

Some 70 people, including children and entire families, remain missing.
