Last Sunday, community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction Ltd, celebrated some more fantastic team and individual performances as youth football teams returned to competitive action after the Christmas and New Year break. Many Omonia Youth FC teams are well placed in their respective leagues and this positive start to 2017 bodes well for the rest of the season.

Three of the four Under 12 teams started 2017 with wins. Chris and Jimmy Mousicos’ Under 12 Gold won 3-1 against their hitherto undefeated opponents. Jay Tyler, Charlie Mousicos and Kaden Njogu were the scorers. The whole team were superb and as a whole were awarded the Man of the Match. That win allowed Nick Lingis and Mario Christoforou’s Under 12 Green to take top spot in the division and continue their unbeaten start to the season with seven wins out of seven. They won 4-3 away thanks to goals from Jack Anastasi (3) and George Androutsos. Jack’s hat trick earned him the Man of the Match award too.

The Under 12 Silver of George Sammoutis and Harry Theodorou crushed their opponents 5-0. A very satisfying start to 2017. Nicholas Georgopoulos, Aman Khan and Oscar Hickey were the scorers with two own goals too. Man of the Match was awarded Azam Malik and Marco Chrysostomou.

Michael Pieri’s Under 12 White couldn’t make it a clean sweep for the Under 12s as they were defeated 3-2. Vaughan Frederick with both goals. Thomas Georgiou was awarded Man of the Match for his consistent performance and positive attitude.

Andy Michael and Panos Papa-Michael’s Under 13 Gold lost in the Challenge Cup 4-1. Youssef Habibi was the scorers of their only goal with Andreas Kyriacou named Man of the Match.

Chris Gregoriou’s Under 15 White won again, 4-3 in a tough match at the Radiomarathon Centre. George Kyriacou, Nick Gregoriou, Stephanos Kizas and Chris Yiannitsarou were the scorers. Man of the Match was Stephanos Kizas who scored an absolute beauty by lobbing the keeper from outside the box after some great ball control.

It was double delight for the Under 15s as Kyri Georgiou’s Greens also won, winning 3-1. Goal were scored by Solos, Yianni and Temi with Nikolaus named Man of the Match.

Kyri Haili and Mike Petrou’s Under 13 White unluckily lost 5-4 in a very competitive match. David Preece, Pier-Giacommo Loui Petrou and Hoa Xin O’Sullivan were the scorers with Hoa Xin also named Man of the Match.

Demi Shiamishi’s Under 13 also tasted defeat, losing 4-1 but the score was not reflective of a good performance. Julian Zeli was named Man of the Match.

There were impressive performances from both Under 16 teams. Nick Zimaras’ White were very convincing as they controlled their game on their way to a 6-0 win. Goals from Cem, Finn, Joe Cannon, Max, Jacob and Richard. Man of the Match was Carlos.

Elias Constanti’s Under 16 Green were also victorious away from home. The team responded well to going a goal down and came back with three unanswered goals to win 3-1. Goal scorers were Marios Charalambous, Matthew Farrelly and Toki Ogunnaike. Man of the Match was Daniel Phillippou.

The Under 14 Greens continued their impressive form and stayed top of the Mid Herts Premier Division with a resounding 7-1 win. The performance was all the more impressive as they went in at half time 1-1.
