A US State Department official has expressed the US support for the leaders as they try to reach a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus expressing satisfaction with the fact that they agreed to resume the Cyprus talks.

“We are pleased to hear the leaders have agreed to resume their negotiations. The United States reaffirms its continued support for the leaders as they try to reach a comprehensive settlement to reunify the island as a bizonal, bicommunal federation, which would benefit all Cypriots as well as the wider region” the official said.

He added that `the United States continues to fully support the UN-facilitated process under UN Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide, and we are very encouraged by the progress Cypriot leaders have made this year`.
