A man has sadly died following a fire at a terraced house on Hervey Park Road in Walthamstow this evening.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus discovered a man in the lounge at the front of the property but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene. There was extensive damage to the room but little damage to the rest of the property.

The Brigade was called at 1739 and the incident was under control by 1905. Two fire engines and 14 firefighters and officers from Walthamstow and Leyton fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
