Detectives have issued CCTV footage of four men who tricked their way into the home of an elderly couple and stole a quantity of cash.

At around 14:00hrs on Tuesday, 2 August, the four men knocked on the door of a flat in Regent Square in Camden, WC1.

One of the men claimed he was from the council and was checking a reported water leak. He was let into the flat, and went into the kitchen with the 70-year-old female resident.

Three other men entered the flat and searched for property. They were confronted by the woman’s 85-year-old male partner, at which point all four suspects left the flat and made off on foot.

Detective Constable Harriet Warrilow, of Camden CID, said: “The men had pulled coats over their heads in an attempt to prevent their identification through CCTV. However, I am hopeful that somebody will recognise the group through the footage of the four men together entering and leaving the block of flats.”

All four suspects are described as white men. The man who spoke with the woman had a London or English accent.

Anyone with information that may assist police, or who can recognise any of the suspects, should call Camden CID via 101. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
