A woman who attacked another woman with a glass after she bumped into her on a nightclub dance floor has been jailed.

Lauren Gritz, of South Ockenden, Essex, was today (Friday 18 November) sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to 12 months in prison. The 24-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful wounding at an earlier hearing.

The court heard officers were called to Agenda Bar in Mincing Lane in the early hours of Saturday, 7 May after it was reported that a woman had been ‘glassed’.

Officers from the City of London Police attended and found the victim, a 23 year-old woman, with a laceration to her forehead, blood congealed in her hair and spattered on her clothes following the unprovoked attack. The assault, which took place on the dance floor, was captured on CCTV.

Detective Constable Joe Farrell from the City of London Police said:

“I hope today’s sentencing sends a strong message to everyone who socialises in the City – there is no excuse for such violent behaviour and will not be tolerated by the City of London Police.

“Gritz went to Agenda for an enjoyable night out. The same can be said for her victim and for many other people who work in the City. However, on this occasion the night ended with long lasting consequences for both women.

“Gritz left a 23 year-old woman scarred after the altercation. There had been no contact between the two women prior to the incident and the attack seems to be sparked by the victim backing into Gritz while dancing.

“There is no justification for the way Gritz reacted that night.”

Gritz was also ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation.
