Olympiakos dropped its first points at home in a goalless draw with Kerkyra on Sunday, but the headlines belong to PAS Giannina that has climbed to second in the Super League thanks to its win over Veria on Saturday.
The Ioannina club, that drew 0-0 at home with Levadiakos on Wednesday in the game it had in hand, was completely dominant against visiting Veria and won 2-0 through the league’s second-best scorer Pedro Conde (pictured) and Chrytsovalantis Kozoronis.
PAS, which this season played in Europe for the first time in its history, at the Europa League qualifiers, is now two points clear of third-placed Panathinaikos and AEK and five points behind leader Olympiakos that stumbled at home against Kerkyra.
This was the first time since December 2014 that Olympiakos has dropped points at home. Three days after the 1-1 draw at home with Young Boys for the Europa League, the Olympiakos fans jeered their team again, aiming mainly at manager Paulo Bento.
Panathinaikos narrowly escaped one more defeat, as Lucas Villafanes equalized in the third minute of injury time the Karim Ansarifard goal that had given Panionios the lead at Nea Smyrni, Still, the 1-1 result is not making Panathinaikos coach Andrea Stramaccioni’s job any safer.
AEK is now joint third with Panathinaikos, as after struggling to open the score for 77 minutes at home against Platanias on Saturday it scored three times in 12 minutes, first through a Dimitris Sotiriou own goal and then via Christos Aravidis and Petros Mantalos.
In other weekend games Xanthi scored an important away win downing Panetolikos 3-2 at Agrinio to climb to sixth at the table, Levadiakos scored three goals in 16 miniyuts to beat bottom team Iraklis 3-0 at home and go one spot behind Xanthi, while Asteras Tripolis and Larissa shared a 1-1 draw.
On Monday PAOK entertains Atromitos.
