A man has today been jailed after admitting his involvement in a fatal collision in Haringey.

Adem Yakici, 28 (24.10.88) of Gloucester Road, E17 was today, Friday, 11 November, jailed for seven months at Wood Green Crown Court.

He had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

Police were called at around 19:45hrs on 16 December 2014 to reports of a collision between a Smart car and a Honda moped on Ferry Lane, near the junction with Mill Mead Road, N17.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended but the motorcyclist, who was later named as 41-year-old Naeem Anjum Tahir from Waltham Forest, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command quickly established that Yakici’s car collided with the moped whilst Mr Tahir was attempting to turn right. The force of the collision caused the car to career off the road and into a tree.

Yakici stopped at the scene and was taken by LAS to a north London hospital with minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Jane Mallett, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A brief moment of carelessness or lack of attention can result in the tragic loss of life.

“Yakici’s driving that day fell far below what anyone would expect from a person driving on our roads.

“I would like to take this opportunity to urge motorists to take care whilst driving and always be on the lookout for motorcyclists.”

Yakici was summonsed for the offence of causing death by careless driving on Thursday, 28 April.

He pleaded guilty on Friday, 7 October.
