Christmas will come early for shoppers in Haringey this year when parking charges across the borough will be waived to support local high streets on Small Business Saturday (3rd December).

It will be free to park in council-run town centre car parks and pay and display bays on the day, which aims to celebrate local traders and encourage people to shop locally as they gear up for the festive season.

There is a host of activities planned across the borough to mark Small Business Saturday including:

  • Wood Green High Road will have entertainment including a Christmas Tree lights, a choir singing carols, live music and DJs, salsa dancing and pop-up stalls on the corner of Lymington Avenue.
  • In Crouch End there is a Christmas Craft Market running from 10am to 5pm.
  • Tottenham Winter Festival – from 12 – 6pm on Tottenham Green with Christmas Tree lights at 5pm (featuring a special guest), a range of market stalls, family activities and live music performances .
  • On Sunday 4th December there will also be the Myddleton Road Winter Festival including a Santa’s grotto, music, craft and food and drink stalls, a fun-fair and other children’s activities.

Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Peray Ahmet said: “Free parking across Haringey is a fantastic way to mark Small Business Saturday and will encourage people to shop local rather than head to the West End as they look for Christmas gifts.”

Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Sustainability and Social Inclusion, Cllr Joe Goldberg said: “We have a huge range of independent and unique stores which play an important role in the prosperity of the borough. We’re pleased to get behind them on Small Business Saturday.”

Roger Ward, chair of the Haringey Business Alliance said: “With all day free council parking in shopping areas there will never be better chance to support the small businesses who make Haringey such a great place.”

Controlled Parking Zones and other essential parking restrictions including road works will remain in force on Small Business Saturday.
