Ronny Levy’s debut in the dugout for Anorthosis Famagusta started off with a hard-fought 2-1 win over bottom club Anagennises Derynia on Monday night.

The struggling refugee club – that failed to impress under previous boss Antonio Puche – appointed the Israeli coach – who had also been in charge at Anorthosis between 2011 and 2013 – last week.

Anorthosis got off to a bumpy start at the Tasos Markou Stadium when Weslem struck after only eight minutes but the visitors fought back to equalise before halftime through Pele.

The game looked to be heading towards a draw until Esmael Goncalves – who had been struggling with lack of goals this season – hit the winner ten minutes from time with a spectacular overhead kick.

“Things have been tough for us so it was very important for us to win,” said Goncalves. “This victory is dedicated to the fans.”

Anagennises – who remain bottom of the league – also had new boss Savvas Poursaitides making his debut in the dugout.
