Enfield Council will soon be starting work on an ambitious new housing project which will see 15 new council houses (including 11 family sized townhouses) being built. All of the new homes will be for affordable renting to people in housing need on the Council’s Housing Register.

The project, in Ordnance Road, will see the council working in partnership with its contractor Neilcott Construction Ltd, to transform the former Kettering Hall and pub site.

This week Cllr Ahmet Oykener, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing & Housing Regeneration, visited the site to see for himself where the houses would be built.

The houses will front onto a new mews between Rotherfield Road and Beaconsfield Road, and will include 16 off-street parking spaces. Two of the new houses will be fully wheelchair accessible.

Cllr Oykener said: “Enfield Council is proud to begin work in Ordnance Road which will see 15 new family houses built, which will be 100% for affordable rent which exceeds the Greater London Authority (GLA) target of 50%.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver developments with 100 percent affordable housing but it is particularly important for Enfield which has areas where it is much needed.”

Neilcott’s Managing Director, Malcolm Elster, said “We are delighted to be working with Enfield Council on this important project which brings much needed affordable housing to the local community. We are also keen to ensure that this project provides opportunities for employment and skills development.”
