Officers are appealing for information after a woman was racially abused on a Victoria Line train at Highbury & Islington station this month.

Just before 8.30pm on Saturday 1 October, a 61-year-old woman left a northbound Victoria Line train at Highbury & Islington station. As she was walking towards the exit, an unknown man shouted racially offensive language at the woman.

The woman then turned to face the man asking whether he was talking to her, at this point he once more used racially offensive words.

Today, we are releasing CCTV of a man we would like to speak with in connection – do you know who he is?

Investigating the incident, PC Amir Darvish, said: “Everyone has the right to travel without being abused for who they are. We simply will not standby and allow people to use threatening or intimidating language towards other passengers.

“I am very keen to hear from anyone who might have information on this incident. Did you witness it, or do you recognise the man we would like to speak with? Please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to text it to BTP on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 290 of 31/10/2016. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
