A man has been charged with murder following the death of a man at HMP Pentonville.

[A] Basana Kimbembi, 34 (14.07.82) of no fixed abode was charged on Friday, 21 October with the murder of Jamal Mahmoud, 21, in HMP Pentonville on Tuesday, 18 October.

He will be produced from prison to appear at court at a later date.

A second man [B] aged 26 has been released from police custody and returned to prison.

Enquiries by the Homicide and Major Crime Command continue.

Two other men – aged 21 and 30 – were taken to an east London hospital for treatment. They remain in hospital – their injuries are not life threatening.

A post-mortem examination took place at Whittington Hospital on Thursday, 20 October and gave cause of death as a stab wound.

Next have kin have been informed and, while formal identification awaits, officers can confirm the deceased is Jamal Mahmoud, 21 (08.01.95), a serving prisoner of HMP Pentonville.
