Borough entertained Tilbury in a Ryman Division One North League encounter and got off to a flying start when Ramil Sheriff finished off a flowing move by driving the ball into the net from close range at the end of a flowing move after just 5 minutes. 4 minutes later an alert Ralston Gabriel took advantage of a mis-hit Tilbury free kick to double the lead again from close range. But Borough’s comfort zone was soon demolished as Simon Peddie powered in an unstoppable header as he was allowed an unchallenged run onto a corner from the left at the far post just 4 minutes later.
Borough enjoyed the better of the remainder of the half and Gabriel was twice within a whisker of converting fine chances but it was to be defender Coby Rowe who bravely forced the ball home when he met a corner, being injured in the process but fortunately able to continue after treatment. But it was Tilbury who had by far the better of the second half with Borough too prone to concede free kicks, and two penalties, with clumsy challenges many in dangerous positions.
Kurt Smith drove the first spot kick hard and low to Harry Palmers right only six minutes into the half and Borough’s nerves were on edge throughout; and it looked as if victory was to be snatched away five minutes from time by a second penalty but this time Smith again drove it low and hard to Palmer’s right but to Borough’s relief just outside the post on this occasion. There was still time for further scares with further free kicks being conceded but Borough held on to record what was only their first odd goal victory in their 21 games to date.
