Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a takeaway restaurant in Falcon Road, Battersea this morning.

Part of the basement and part of the ground floor of the building were damaged by fire.

A man and a woman were led to safety from a neighbouring property. The man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service suffering from smoke inhalation and the woman was treated at the scene.

The Brigade was called at 0016 and the fire was under control at 0207. Fire crews from Battersea, Clapham, Wandsworth, Chelsea and Tooting fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
