With regards yesterday’s session of the European Council and the discussion on migration, and more specifically on the issue of the visa liberalization for Turkish citizens, we stress that there cannot be a retreat from the position for compliance with all the commitments towards all the member-states.
As with every other state, Turkey too must fulfill all the criteria that are demanded for the visa liberalization to the EU. The EU cannot pursue a double standards policy in order to serve interests and indeed to the detriment of the refugees.
AKEL insists that the European Union must respect on an equal footing all its member-states and their legitimate interests, as implied by International and European Law.
