UNSG’s Special Adviser for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide said on Friday that he is glad to end the week on a good note after three productive leaders` meetings in a row. Eide posted this on his personal twitter account following today`s meeting between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

Following a tripartite meeting with UNSG Ban Ki Moon in New York on September 25, the leaders embarked on a new round of intensified talks. They met three times so far (4,5 7 October). They are set to have a total of 9 or 10 meetings in October.

Anastasiades and Akinci have been engaged in peace talks under the UN aegis with the aim to reunite Cyprus under a federal roof. The island has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
