At 7.30pm on Wednesday 26th October 2016, a bicycle auction is to be held at The Cypriot Community Centre in Earlham Grove, Wood Green, N22 5HJ. The last such event took place in November 2015 and although heavy rain deterred many from attending, lots of bicycles found new homes.
Every bicycle sold had included with the sale a free lock, lights and reflector pack included. This pack was made up from donations from local and international businesses. The local Woodside Councillors were in attendance to support the event also.
Chris, the manager at the Cypriot Community Centre has kindly allowed one of his halls to be used for the event and for his staff to assist on the night.
Car parking is limited at and around the venue. There is a bus stand close by that is serviced by bus routes 329, 121, 141 and 232 along High Road. If you would like to purchase a bicycle, it can held for you and can be collected at a later date…..or you could simply ride it home! Wood Green underground station is only a short walk away.
Bikes for Good Causes will be supplying up-cycled, previously loved bicycles for auction, to be sold to the highest bidder. These bicycles had been kindly donated by the public and also by various police services who have been unable to identify seized bicycles and bicycles found in the street.
All of the bicycles to be sold have been lovingly repaired by their own talented mechanic. Bikes for Good Causes is located at 350 High Road, Wood Green, N22 and they can be contacted on 0208 888 1005. If you have an unused bicycle sat in storage that you wish to donate, they would love to hear from you. They work in partnership with Action for Kids, a thoroughly worthwhile organisation.
There will be food and drink available and as much free merchandise to be given away as the organiser, PC Craig Carter can muster from local businesses and Transport for London.
Transport for London Police Officers should be in attendance to property mark each bicycle that is sold. Assuming that they are not swamped on the night, they aim to property mark any bicycle that is brought to the event also.
The date of the 2016 event was deliberately chosen as it fails in the middle of the school half term. Bikes for Good Causes have many bicycles for all ages, especially for young children. The prices for children’s bikes start at £20, adult bikes from as low as £40 but there are occasionally some very nice, high quality bicycles available for upwards of £350. You may wish to book your bicycle in with Bikes for Good Causes for a repair or a service.
PC Carter is hoping to find funding for the purchase of some brand new bicycles and related equipment so that they can be raffled off for charity.
So……Whether you are looking for a pre-loved bicycle to purchase at a great price, to bring an unused bicycle to be donated or to have a loved bicycle to be repaired, serviced or property marked, please do come along!
