His interest and the efforts his undertaking for the solution to the Cyprus problem are well-known and I would like to thank him especially for all this effort which he has been making for many years, supporting in particular the principles and positions of the Greek Cypriot side.

During the meeting I have briefed him about AKEL’s positions on the current phase of the developments surrounding the Cyprus problem, as well as about our readiness to support the efforts aiming at reaching a solution that will be based on the long-standing and agreed principles of the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Mr. Menendez listened very carefully to our views and has promised to continue his efforts to contribute in any way to the procedure of the negotiations, without of course being involved, as you realize, in the actual process itself.”
