AEK announced on Tuesday it has replaced manager Temuri Ketsbaia with Portuguese coach Jose Morais.

One day after rising to joint second on the table beating Larissa 2-1 away – both goals coming from Vangelis Platellas – AEK announced it was parting ways with its Georgian manager, who paid the price for the poor performance at the 3-0 loss to Olympiakos over two weeks earlier.

Within just three hours Morais was at the AEK headquarters and agreed to sign a contract with the Cup holders up to the end of the season, with an option for one more year.

Morais is a Jose Mourinho understudy having been his assistant at Porto, Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea. He has recently managed Antalyaspor in Turkey and Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.

Another managerial casualty of the weekend was Nikos Papadopoulos of Iraklis, who quit after the 1-0 loss at PAOK. He is replaced by youth team coach Yiannis Amanatidis, a former Greece striker.
