A day after winning a marathon match over Pablo Carreno Busta in his Chengdu Open debut, Marcos fell to Serbia’s Viktor Troicki in the second round.

Troicki prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 after one hour and 47 minutes, despite Marcos striking eight aces and claiming three of eight break chances. After dropping the first set, Marcos overcame a 4-2 deficit in the second, breaking twice in a row in the eighth game and to love in the 10th game. But Troicki would secure two breaks in the decider to emerge with the win.

Marcos impressed with a three-hour victory over Carreno Busta on Wednesday, which was the longest three-set match in his career. He next plays at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Tokyo, where he reached the semifinals in 2012.
