HARINGEY BOROUGH 0 VCD ATHLETIC 2

Ryman League Division One North                                                                           24th September 2016 Coles Park

Haringey Borough made it 5 league defeats in a row (6 in total) on Saturday against a VCD side that were there for the taking. Vickers Crayford Dartford to give VCD their full title started the day 2 points ahead of Haringey, but should at 5.00 o’clock have been below them.

Borough should have scored in the first minute when Adrian Markus hit the bar after good work from Dean Fenton which turned out to be the first of many chances missed.

After the initial Haringey onslaught, VCD got back into the game and on 18 minutes Kris Newby on the left wing floated over a cross which eluded everyone and ended up in the back off the Borough net. This was VCD’s only attempt on target in the whole of the first half.

The next 30 minutes should have seen Haringey put this game to bed, with Markus having 4 good chances to score and also Jorge Djassi-Sambu and Joshua Willer coming close, but not to be.

The second half was much the same, with Borough attack after attack being thwarted by a desperate VCD tackle or a misplaced pass.

VCD could have made it 2 early in the half but a last ditch tackle by Anton Blackwood on Jamie Guy prevented the forward scoring. Guy could also have scored 10 minutes later, but missed from 8 yards when put through.

The sucker punch came 10 minutes from time, when a defensive mix-up led to Guy scoring Athletics second and with it the three points.

Haringey are now in the bottom 3 of the division and welcome Ware on Monday 26th 7.45pm kick off, knowing a win is a must.
