NORWICH UNITED V HARINGEY BOROUGH

Ryman League Division One North 27th August 2016 Plantation Park, Norwich

Haringey Borough journeyed the 250 plus mile round trip north to Norwich with a depleted squad due to injuries and non availability and produced a lack lustre performance, which resulted in a defeat against a team that never really touched second gear.

Norwich kicked off against a strong wind that blew down the pitch and within 15 seconds should have been 1-0 up but for a fine save by Borough’s Harry Palmer low to his right.

Benjamin Adams was badly tackled and had to be substituted, the referee not even giving a free-kick and right in front of the assistant ref. Another player injured. The list just grows.

At least Jorge Djassi-Sambu was back after his injury against Dereham on the opening day. His header on 15 minutes hitting the cross-bar being the closest Haringey came to scoring in the first half.

The ground was rock hard and Norwich were more adapt in taking control of the match but it wasn’t until time added on that the breakthrough occurred. The ball went out to Adam Hipperson on the left and he cut in and from an acute angle fired past Palmer for the first goal.

The second half wasn’t much better than the first. Chances were created by both sides, but nobody really took control. A series of substitutions led to even more break up of play, but one of them did the trick for Norwich.

Jamie Speller came on with 10 minutes to go and with time going into the 43 minute, a Haringey attack broke down and he received the ball and shot past Palmer into the goal from the edge of the area.

Haringey did have the last word in a way. A hopeful punt into the Norwich box was put into their own goal by a United defender, this being the last bit of action. The ref blowing for time as Norwich kicked off.

Haringey need to rally quickly as they play Maldon & Tiptree tonight Monday 29th August at 19.45. The following Saturday 3rd September they play Witham Town in the FAC 1st qualifying round. All are welcome.

Haringey’s season-tickets are valid for the Maldon game, but not the Witham FA Cup match, where entrance will be just £3, with at least half going to Prostrate Cancer UK.

You can still apply for a season ticket on the day, so speak to anyone at the club or get in touch for details.
