Headteacher, Mr. Rob Ahearn, welcomes new students during assembly

Students joining St Andrew the Apostle School’s Year 7 in September on Thursday (7 July) eagerly embraced all the new lessons, new friends and a new stage of their education on their Induction Day.

During their first assembly, Headteacher, Mr. Rob Ahearn, introduced students to the School Prayer before welcoming the students and encouraging them to think about what makes a school successful. They discussed values such as respect and caring for each other and achieving their best. They were also encouraged to make new friends from more than 50 feeder schools throughout the North London area.

Current students were on hand throughout the day to assist teachers with classes and to help the newcomers feel welcome and answer questions about what it is like to be part of St Andrew’s. They will continue to be “buddies” in September, when the new Year 7s start full time.

Taster lessons included Classics, PE, English, Science, Maths and French – some subjects were being experienced for the first time. Students were enthusiastic about recounting what they had learnt and the names of their new friends to Mr. Ahearn during the end of day assembly. As they left each student was presented with a St Andrew’s water bottle and book mark as a memento of their first day.

In the evening, Year 6 parents enjoyed the opportunity of seeing what their children had got up to earlier the day with the help of photos and a video shot by older students.

Mr Ahearn said, “It was good to see so many smiling faces and good behavior on the new students’ first day. Staff and students have worked hard to ensure that it was a positive experience. They can now look forward to joining the St Andrew’s family in September, confident that we will support them and help them to achieve their best in their school careers.”
