A LITTLE girl who last year miraculously survived a mystery bug which ate away at her heart is getting ready to go abroad for the first time in her life.

Katie Riley, 11, who lives in Tutbury with her mum and dad, has never been on holiday abroad because she was born with a hole in her heart which makes it more dangerous for her to fly.

But doctors took the opportunity to close the hole as part of major heart surgery last January when a previously undiscovered bug attacked her heart valve and almost killed her.
