Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II held a meeting on Monday in Damascus with President Bashar al-Assad.

The Archbishop, accompanied by a delegation, discussed with the Syrian President about the situation in Syria and the relations between the two countries and expressed his great sorrow for the suffering of the people and the destruction in Syria.

The Cypriot delegation held also a meeting with Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem.

Meanwhile, a church mass was held in the Holy Cross Church near Damascus, led by Archbishop Cyprus Chrysostomos II and John X Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.

The ecclesiastical delegation headed by Archbishop Chrysostomos arrived in Damascus on Friday. The visit will last until Tuesday. The Archbishop said that he went to Syria to pray for peace and to show his solidarity with the people who suffer.
