Apostolos Parellis is the tenth Cypriot athlete to participate in the Olympic Games of Rio this summer.

Parellis secured his participation in the Olympic Games, following Saturday`s new Cypriot record he achieved in discus throw at the Herakleia 2016 sports event that took place in the Greek island of Crete.

The 30-year-old Cypriot athlete, who was the Cypriot national record holder with 65.36m, broke his own record in Crete with a discus throw of 65.69 m, thus securing his participation at the Olympic Games.

His throw (65.69m) is the 13th best in the world this year.

The Cyprus Sports Organisation congratulated Parellis for his success and wished him all the best at the Rio Olympic Games.
