St Andrew the Apostle School students have raised nearly £500 for the NSPCC in a charity bake-off and non-uniform day.
Students were able to demonstrate their considerable baking and mathematical skills during the popular break-time cake sale on Friday (5 February).

The winner of the bake-off was Year 9’s Zoe Christofi with a spectacular chocolate and popcorn creation. This was the second year she’s won the contest. After long deliberations, Judges, Mrs Evi Demetriou and Mr Andy Philippou, were unanimous in their choice praising her creativity and original use of popcorn which appeared to spill out of the cake.

The event was organized by the Mathematics Department as part of the NSPCC’s annual nationwide Number Day, aimed at inspiring the next generation of Mathematicians.

The school’s Head of Mathematics, Mrs Valerie Sampson, said: “This is the third year we have run this event and the students excelled themselves not only in the baking but throughout the day during lessons which all contained some kind of numerical challenge.

“I’m even more proud that the total raised this year is nearly double the total raised in previous years – and all for a good cause helping children less fortunate than themselves.”

The school, in North London Business Park, supports a number of charities throughout the year including Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, North Enfield Food Bank and UK Thalassaemia Society as part of its commitment to serving the wider community.
