Experimenting with Science

St Andrew the Apostle School students are happy and secure and intensely proud to be members of their school. That was the message from Headteacher, Mr Robert Ahearn, to hundreds of prospective students and parents who packed into the school in North London Business Park during a series of Open Events over the past two weeks.

Mr Ahearn described leading and establishing a brand new school as “an incredibly exciting journey and a fantastic experience…I knew it was a chance to establish remarkably high standards of teaching and young people deserve the best we can offer.”

He explained how being part of the Russell Education Trust, the most successful multi-academy trust in terms of Ofsted inspections, provided security and expertise that benefitted all. All staff are hand-picked and students are already making rapid progress towards challenging targets and Ofsted recently judged St Andrew’s as outstanding in all four categories.

Mr Ahearn stated: “The inspectors found that our traditional but contemporary curriculum provides rich and varied opportunities to develop academic skills, knowledge and understanding. We draw on the best practice from independent and state schools and support all students to achieve their academic potential. The curriculum meets the needs of the full range of our students, developing them intellectually, socially, culturally, spiritually and morally.”

Mr Ahearn was keen to point out that St Andrew’s is an inclusive school and all are made welcome regardless of faith.

“As Anglican and Catholic Church schools make a significant contribution to educational standards, we intend to do the same by serving the wider Greek orthodox community and people of all faiths and beliefs.

“We are a school based on Christian values of forgiveness, responsibility, kindness and respect for others – which leads to very high expectations in terms of behaviour. We also expect every child to feel secure here and free to be an individual and make positive decisions.”

Three students gave confident and very personal accounts of their experiences at St Andrew’s and talented students provided a mixture of contemporary and traditional musical entertainment.

Visitors were shown round the school by student tour guides and there were plenty of opportunities to experience the classes and facilities on offer in a full range of subjects including the core Maths, English and Science. Several parents commented on the high quality of teaching and the relationships St Andrew the Apostle staff have with students.

St Andrew the Apostle School is part of the coordinated Pan-London Admissions process. Prospective parents have until October 31 2015 to apply for a place via their LA.
